The Chesapeake Bay Academy School-to-Work Program provides a unique opportunity for experiential learning. All of our Upper School students spend two weeks of the school year working with partner businesses in the wider Hampton Roads community learning first-hand the joys and challenges of the working world. We match students’ interests to corresponding positions in area businesses, maximizing students’ opportunities for fulfilling and educational placements. Currently, over 150 different placements are available, and over the course of three years each student will experience three different work environments.
Over the course of the program students receive guidance on resume writing, proper work attire and conducting themselves during an interview. They are paired with staff members from their placement company who serve as their personal mentor throughout the course of the program. Mentors advise, encourage, and educate their students. At the end of the program, CBA hosts a special community celebration and all students present the highlights of their experiences.
The School-to-Work Program helps our students gain new skills resulting in more confident and competent graduates. Our students are reassured that they can be successful in the real world and that there is a place for them in the workforce. Many extend their placements into summer jobs, and some go on to work full-time with their placement company after graduation.
