Admissions

Admissions

At Chesapeake Bay Academy, each student who walks through our doors shares a dream of fulfilling a personal goal and reaching his or her maximum potential. We recognize that every one has unique talents, abilities and needs. Our school celebrates that uniqueness, and empowers students who may not have succeeded in traditional learning institutions to grow and thrive.

Learning differences are seen as opportunities, not obstacles. Working together, teachers and administrators create an individualized academic plan that identifies each student's strengths to be developed, and most importantly, targets areas where a student may need special support and encouragement. With a low student-to-teacher ratio and a class size of no more than 12 students, our programs allow instructors the chance to create positive student-teacher relationships and provide a one-on-one learning environment to help students reach their highest potential both academically and socially.

For more information on Chesapeake Bay Academy admissions, contact our Director of Advancement, Hunter W. Wortham, at  hwortham@cba-va.org or 757.497.6200.

Chesapeake Bay Academy admits students of any race, color, religion, sex and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available at the school. It does not discriminate in administration of its personnel policies, admission policies, financial aid, or athletic and other school administered programs.

  • Admissions Procedures

Chesapeake Bay Academy practices rolling admissions and processes admissions applications throughout the year. It is recommended to apply the prior year as available spaces are limited.

Following a comprehensive review of the student's records, the Chesapeake Bay Academy Admissions Committee reaches an admissions decision. The following steps should facilitate the admissions process through enrollment:

  • Call the Admissions office at 757.497.6200 to schedule a tour of Chesapeake Bay Academy. During your visit, you will tour the school and meet with the Director of Advancement to discuss your child's needs, your expectations, and our philosophy of education.
  • Next, complete the application for admission (link to enrollment form) and the transcript and records request form (link to form). Attach the $50.00 non-refundable application fee and mail to Chesapeake Bay Academy.

Your child's profile will include a psychological and educational evaluation, all school records, teacher recommendations, and interview. Once your child's profile is complete, the Admissions Committee will make a recommendation regarding Chesapeake Bay Academy's ability to meet your child's needs.

For additional information about Chesapeake Bay Academy or the school's admission procedures, contact our Director of Advancement, Hunter W. Wortham at hwortham@cba-va.org or 757.497.6200.

  • Tuition and Fees

The tuition for the 2009-10 academic school year is $18,900 for Lower School, $19,300 for Middle School and $21,200 for Upper School. Payment options include Single Payment, Bi-Annual, Quarterly, and Monthly. A $500.00 non-refundable/non-adjustable enrollment fee is required with the contract. Tuition will be prorated for any student enrolling after the start of the second grading period. A $100 service charge will be added to the Monthly Payment Plan, a $40 service charge will be added to the Quarterly Payment Plan, and a $20 service charge will be added to the Bi-Annual Payment Plan.

Books
Students in Lower School do not purchase books. Students in grades 6-8 purchase consumables such as workbooks that cannot be reused. Students in grades 9-12 purchase all books. Depending on the courses and the condition of the books, the school may buy back books in good condition at the end of the school year. During new student orientation, returning and new students may purchase books. Used books are available on a first-come first-served basis.

Supplies
Students in all grades are responsible for their own school supplies. The school will provide a supply list to all Chesapeake Bay Academy families prior to the first day of school.

Other Fees
Students participating in athletic programs are charged a fee to supplement the cost of uniforms, coaches, referees, equipment, trophies, and transportation. Field trip fees cover the cost of the trip and are determined individually for each field trip.

Tuition Assistance
Tuition Assistance is available to students accepted for admission whose families clearly demonstrate financial need. Information on a low-interest academic loan is also available from the Admissions Office. If you are interested in financial aid, you may apply online at: http://www.nais.org/financialaid/sss
