Boys Basketball: CBA Dolphins vs. YAK

Chesapeake Bay Academy Dolphins

Last night CBA took on YAK in their first home game and the energy in the gym was amazing. CBA stayed right with YAK for the entirety of the game and played with incredible toughness. Mac Watson started the team off a big three pointer in the first quarter to get CBA going. CBA was constantly pressuring YAK early and created many turnovers especially by Hunter Haycox. CBA and YAK seemed to be trading shots throughout the game and it came right down to the wire. A big part was to keeping CBA in the game was Drew Bowers who had 9 points and played tough defensively. CBA was down one at the half and was only down four to start the 4th quarter. Scoring was led by Jason Hanneman (14 points and Player of the Game) and Aidan Cochran (17 points). Both players created opportunities for themselves by making big shots and driving into the lane to cause fouls. CBA tied up the game with a couple minutes left but YAK ended up winning by three points. Jacob Dudek and Robert Inglesby came up with big rebounds throughout and Mike Romano played some great defense. CBA continues to show improvement and plays with unwavering enthusiasm.

Our next game is not until next year. See you all on January 9th when we take on Great Bridge at home.

Boys Basketball: CBA Dolphins vs. Friends School

Chesapeake Bay Academy DolphinsLast Friday CBA took on Virginia Beach Friends School at Friends for their 4th game of the season. CBA started off great but couldn’t get anything going against a great Friends team. CBA as always showed a lot of heart but Friends played with intensity and even made 6 three pointers which was a big difference maker. Jack Lewis (Player of the Game) was our leading scorer and rebounder in the game grabbing 10 rebounds. Jahdari Raphael grabbed 9 rebounds of his own and Tim Burgsteiner made many plays on defense and snagged 4 rebounds. Nevin Miller got plenty of minutes and is improving tremendously. Sam VanHook and Benny Adams played with a lot of pride and always put forth their best effort. JJV does not play another game until the new year when they take on Great Bridge January 9th.

CBA varsity team started off slow but crawled back winning the second quarter. Every time CBA seemed to comeback Friends would put together a great run to answer. Drew Bowers (14 Points, 5 Rebounds), Garrett Ferrebee (6 Points, 3 rebounds) and Jason Hanneman (7 points, 1 Rebound, 2 Steals) were leaders out on the court and kept their enthusiasm at a high level. Mac Watson got plenty of rebounds and Michael Chapman scored some points for us late in the game. Jacob Dudek, Robert Inglesby and Michael Romano again were leaders when on the court and put players in the right spot to succeed. As always CBA shows unbelievable effort and determination no matter what.

Varsity next game is this Wednesday, December 14th HOME vs. YAK at 5:30pm.

Also it is CBA night @ Sonic this Tuesday from 5 – 7pm. Please come and have dinner at Sonic (5453 Wesleyan Drive. Virginia Beach, VA 23455 (Just one mile away from CBA!)*** to help... » read more

Boys Basketball: CBA Dolphins vs. Gateway Christian Academy

Chesapeake Bay Academy DolphinsLast night CBA traveled to Gateway Christian Academy for their 3rd game of the year.

Gateway was one of the better teams we have faced this season and it showed early when CBA was down 9 at the end of the first quarter. But CBA won the 2nd quarter and crawled back with great shots by Ryan Whitmire who had 5 points himself in that quarter. Ben Adams (Player of the Game) saw his first action of the year and made some unbelievable passes into the Gateway defense as well as getting a steal of his own. Jahdari Rapheal snatched 5 rebounds and was a force defensively down low. Sam VanHook, Tim Bergsteiner and Jack Lewis seemed to always be around the ball. The Dolphins as always gave relentless effort and left it all out on the court.

The varsity game was somewhat similar to the JJV game. CBA started off slow and couldn’t seem to get shots to fall. Turnovers, Missed layups and shots down low hurt CBA early as well as Gateway couldn’t seem to miss making 4 out 5 of their 3 pointers in the first half. Garrett Ferrebee and Aidan Cochran gave us good momentum in the 2nd quarter to end the half with there great drives into the lanes and creating opportunities for CBA. In the 3rd quarter Jason Hanneman and Drew Bowers played great allowing us to win that quarter by scoring almost all of our points and playing great defense. Mac Watson (Player of the Game) was great defensively and got numerous rebounds as well as 2 steals of his own. Michael Romano and Robert Inglesby played lots of minutes and seemed to be leaders to their teammates when they were out on the court. CBA showed a lot of heart against a Gateway team that was very tough and very quick. Hats off to Gateway and their ... » read more

Boys Basketball: CBA Dolphins vs. Knights of Suffolk Christian Academy

Chesapeake Bay Academy Dolphins

Last night we played our first game against the Knights of Suffolk Christian Academy. Our boys put on a great effort in both games and were impressive with their effort and hustle.

Our JJV team was led by Sam VanHook (Player of the Game and Co-lead Scorer) with his great movement on offense, scoring points and great defensive play. Marcus Johns (Co-lead scorer) put in a basket of his own late in the 3rd quarter to give CBA a spark in finishing the game. Ryan Whitmire, Jacob Brothers controlled our offense and defense with great leadership. Tim Burgsteiner and Jahdari Raphael (Co-lead Scorer) both were grabbing rebounds and hustled to get many loose balls. Although the team lost, CBA played with a lot of heart and never gave up.

Our Varsity jumped out on Suffolk and had a one point lead going into the 2nd quarter. After a tough 2nd quarter CBA was down 12 at the half, but started roaring back with a run of its own and was down only two points to start the 4th quarter. The defenses on both sides really stepped up in the 4th quarter and CBA ended up losing by 8 points. Although the team lost to Suffolk, they showed amazing growth from last year and hung tough until the end. Jason Hanneman was the leading scorer with 9 points. Hunter Haycox added some great defensive play and was the leader in steals for the game. Although Drew Bowers got off to a slow start, he came back and scored 8 points in the 3rd quarter. Aidan Cochran added in 7 points of his own and was good offense for CBA. But the Player of the Game was Jacob Dudek. Dudek grabbed 8... » read more

Boys Basketball: CBA Dolphins vs. Great Bridge Christian Academy

Chesapeake Bay Academy Dolphins

Last Friday night CBA took on Great Bridge Christian Academy in their second game of the year.

JJV started off hot with two big threes from Ryan Whitmire keeping the dolphins only down 5 points at the half. It was a great defensive game and both teams went back and forth with steals and fast breaks. Jacob Brothers had 3 steals of his own and Tim Bergsteiner was grabbing rebounds. Jack Lewis (Player of the game) seemed to be everywhere on the court and was for our tied for our leading scored. Great Bridge pulled away towards the end of the game but it was a hard fought game all the way. Nevin Miller, Sam VanHook, Marcus Johns and Jahdari Rapheal added great minutes and played awesome defense.

The varsity team started off slow but kept battling throughout the game. CBA got into foul trouble early against a very physical team in Great Bridge. Drew Bowers (Player of the game) – 10 points / 8 rebounds was the leader for CBA on the court by his relentless effort and ability to get rebounds and make shots. Hunter Haycox was great defensively getting a couple steals and setting the pace for the offense. Aidan Cochran played a lot of minutes and was positive offense for the Dolphins. Robert Inglesby and Michael Romano were great defensively and were constantly in the right spots as they helped create CBA’s comeback in the 3rd quarter. CBA crawled back from a double digit deficit at the half to being down 8 early in the 4th quarter. Ryan Sullivan and Michael Chapman plugged in late during the game and played some tough defense controlling the middle of the floor. CBA is progressing and are jelling more each week.

Next game is TODAY, December 6th @ Gateway Christian... » read more

Dolphins Varsity Finale Update

Chesapeake Bay Academy DolphinsThe Varsity Basketball team ended its season this past Friday night in the 1st round of the Hampton Roads Athletic Conference tournament, playing against the #2 ranked Summit Christian Academy. Throughout the entire game, our boys played with a ton of heart and passion. Rebounding improved and the determination of these boys never wavered.

Although the season ended with a loss, Coach Rotruck gave a sentimental speech afterwards thanking all players for their commitment, dedication, and hard work throughout the entire season. A great send off was given to the four seniors (Bryce Cobb, Patrick McKneely, Daniel Mullen, and Isaac Bruce, by the entire team with hugs all around. The success this season was seen by athletes, coaches, parents, and opponents all season long. With a young team and good players in the lower grades, the Chesapeake Bay Academy will keep improving in the future.

Dolphins vs. Waves of Virginia Beach Friends School

Chesapeake Bay Academy DolphinsTonight we welcomed the Waves from Virginia Beach Friends School for our final two home games of the season. Our JJV played an extremely good game with a lot of intensity and heart, even outscoring the Waves 21-7 in the 3rd Quarter and tying the game up. The Varsity team played with just as much passion throughout the entire game. There was even one player on the team who shot 100% from behind the three-point line.

Tonight, Chesapeake Bay Academy Athletics also honored it’s four senior players, as well as their parents in a nice ceremony before the game. Our four seniors, Bryce Cobb, Patrick McKneely, Daniel Mullen, and Isaac Bruce were awarded with plaques and had the honor of starting and ending the game in their final home game at CBA.
