The Primary Intervention Program is offered to children ages five to seven with academic concerns demonstrated either through comprehensive psycho-educational assessments (not a component of this program) or sub-optimal response to other structured academic interventions. This offering allows parents of these children to continue with the child’s primary educational placement in other settings while still accessing Chesapeake Bay Academy (CBA) instructional resources in the area where they are needed most.
Services to be included per semester in the Primary Intervention Program…
48 hours of individual attention from a qualified tutor on CBA campus (roughly three hours per week for 16 weeks) that may be apportioned between direct instruction, teacher preparation, formative evaluation, and phone consultation depending on the student’s needs;
Two site visits (maximum of four hours including travel time) in the student’s home or current school for evaluation or intensive collaboration with parents or other service providers;
Formal assessment around the specific areas of focus along with expert interpretation (not a psycho-educational assessment);
A comprehensive individualized plan detailing objectives, instructional methods and strategies, and evaluation for the semester including one formal update during the semester; and
Oversight of the plan delivery and evaluation by a CBA administrator.
The resources of Chesapeake Bay Academy…
Students in the program have access to the academic resources of CBA including a facility designed for learning, state-of-the art technology, and a knowledgeable and supportive administrative structure. Like all CBA programs, the instructional methods of the Primary Intervention Program are strongly based in contemporary research.
