Chesapeake Bay Academy Student Accepted into VBCPS Kemps Landing/Old Donation Center Program for the Intellectually Gifted
Chesapeake Bay Academy (CBA) is proud to announce fifth grade student, Ian Malapira, has earned acceptance into the Virginia Beach City Public Schools Kemps Landing/Old Donation Center Gifted Program for the 2016-17 school year. Every year, hundreds of students from both Virginia Beach public and area private schools compete for a very limited number of seats in this self-contained program for intellectually gifted students.
“The move is bittersweet,” said Ian’s mother, Iola Lazaro-Malapira. “While Ian was identified as having superior intellect at the very early age of three, he was also diagnosed with ADHD. When it came time for elementary school, a traditional setting was not the best option for him. For the last four years, CBA has been an emotional safe-haven for our family that provided an academically challenging environment for Ian. CBA gave Ian the solid foundation and social confidence to help him reach his full potential. We attribute both our confidence to apply to the gifted program, and his acceptance, to that.”
Fortunately, the Malapira family will say “so long”, not good-bye, to CBA this Spring. “Chesapeake Bay Academy is our home. Even though Ian is moving on, we will continue to support the school and we will always have a place in our hearts for the entire community.”
