Del. Davis visits CBA and Horizons summer programs.

Chesapeake Bay Academy (CBA) welcomed Delegate Glenn Davis to campus on Friday, July 15th, 2022, to learn more about the partnership between CBA’s summer enrichment program and Horizons Hampton Roads (HHR), a K-8 summer camp experience for low-income students from Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach.

As chair of the House Education committee, Del. Davis is particularly interested in the partnership between public and private schools. "One cannot help but be extremely impressed with the active-learning environments at Chesapeake Bay Academy,” stated Delegate Davis. “At CBA, it's not about just educating a student, but doing so in a manner and environment that is best suited for each students learning style."

Horizons Hampton Roads, a national program that first came to Hampton Roads under the leadership of Paul Hirschbiel in 1999, is a summer program that provides academic, cultural, and recreational opportunities for students from low-income families. The program is designed to prevent academic regression that is often experienced by students who do not have the opportunity for summer camps and activities. Horizons’ students make measurable gains in both reading and math each summer – maintaining or exceeding grade level expectations. “Providing a home for this important work simply aligns with CBA’s mission to support children with unique learning needs and circumstances,” commented Dr. Judy Jankowski, Head of School at CBA. “We welcome HHR kids every year and look forward to sharing our summer with them.”
