Campaign Initiatives

WHRO emedia training professional development at Chesapeake Bay AcademyCurriculum Development, Faculty Professional Development & Retention
Goal: $200,000
Curriculum development, faculty professional development and retention is crucial to the success of CBA students.  The transformational bond that develops between CBA teachers, our students and their families is the key that unlocks the door to achievement; we need to offer competitive pay and benefits to our faculty and staff.  The average teacher salary at CBA falls almost 30% below the state level.  The CBA faculty is outstanding, dedicated and needs to receive adequate and competitive compensation.

Another key component of faculty satisfaction is the opportunity for professional development.  CBA's budget for professional development is limited and consists largely of Title 1 funds provided by the Virginia Beach City Public Schools.  The CBA faculty has enthusiastically embraced technology as a tool to educate our students more effectively, as well as to communicate efficiently with our families.  As new technologies emerge and prove to be powerful tools in serving students with learning differences, the CBA faculty is eager to utilize more fully the resources available to them.  Provided with on-going training, our teachers will expand their ability to integrate technology with instruction in innovative and transcendent ways, more firmly establishing CBA's reputation as a leader in instructional technology.

The final phase of the Campaign will continue to focus on enhancing the educational experience for the next generation of students through new facilities and curriculum development.  Funds will make possible the update of classroom furnishings to create 21st century workspaces, professional development to facilitate the implementation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) - a set of principles for curriculum development that gives all individuals equal opportunities to learn - and the purchase of additional computer hardware and software necessary to implement UDL.

Facilities Updates at Chesapeake Bay AcademySecurity Upgrades & Facilites Maintenance
Goal: $500,000
The security of our students and faculty have always been, and continues to be, of the utmost importance, rendering CBA an academic and emotional safe haven.  Now, we need to ensure their physical safety.  By upgrading building security through the installation of new systems, we can provide additional peace of mind to faculty, students and their families.

Our beautiful school building opened in the year 2000.  While maintaining it's cosmetic integrity, there are facility repairs, replacements and updates needed to preserve the physical plant.  From improved signage to structural preservation, maintaining the facility is a strategic priority.  Over the next 2-3 years, major projected needs include replacement of the HVAC system and roof.  As we address these facilities-related issues, green initiatives will be incorporated to reduce our ecological footprint and transform our overall sustainability.

Tuition Assistance at Chesapeake Bay AcademyTuition Assistance
Goal: $2,000,000
The Chesapeake Bay Academy Educational Foundation was established to serve all students with financial need whose lives would be transformed by CBA's specialized education.  CBA students come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds; over 20% of families currently receiving tuition assistance live at or below the federal poverty line. Our ability to provide financial assistance over the next decade to those who need it most is crucial.
The Campaign will:

  • Provide current CBA families with ongoing tuition assistance.
  • Offer tuition assistance to more prospective students and families in need.
  • Support diversity to enrich the community.
  • Build overall enrollment.

MaryAnne Dukas Endowment Fund
Goal: $300,000
With the establishment of the MaryAnne Dukas Endowment Fund, the seeds were planted to create an endowment to support the on-going need for tuition assistance funds that are so much a part of CBA's mission.  The campaign presents an opportunity to firmly establish the Endowment and honor the transformational work of an outstanding educator and leader, MaryAnne Dukas.

The Transformation Campaign, driven by a strategic vision for the future, is designed to continue to support the exceptional faculty at CBA while integrating innovative 21st Century programming and technology.
