Yoga & Wellness
Students find their inner Zen
Yoga and meditation are proven to help all students with maintaining focus and balancing emotions. For students with executive function and attentional challenges, managing these challenges opens the gateway to more effective learning. Breath work and mindfulness instruction help students live in the “now” and keep their focus while encouraging them to be strong, powerful and in control of their surroundings. All students in kindergarten through grade 12 receive yoga instruction as part of the physical education curriculum.
In addition to Yoga, students in the middle school receive regular lessons in mindfulness. CBA uses the Mindful Schools curriculum, developed in 2007 by a group of educators in Oakland, California. Students begin every day with two minutes of mindful breathing before homeroom, and they have been learning about many different ways in which they can use mindful practices both in school, and at home.
